Seven Reasons to be Foursquare
The Future
Every local Church needs the advice and support
of a wider group of people to encourage the next generation of leaders.
The Present
We also need to have a sense of real accountable
which provides a safeguard for our Church family.
1. World-Wide Family.
Foursquare operates in every continent of the world
with 5 + million members in 50,000 Churches spread throughout 147
Nations. Europe is a very real mission field and Foursquare is meeting
this challenge head on, resulting in a growing family of Foursquare
Churches reaching out effectively with the gospel message. Being
part of such a family keeps the perspective of the world-wide Church
always before us. It also means that we can benefit from the ministry
from others as well as being a service to others.
2. Third Generation.
Foursquare is a movement that is still growing
even in its third generation. This shows that there is life within
and the passion & heartbeat of the founder is still alive and
thriving and indeed has been increased by the Lord moving in each
new generation. The blessing of God is clearly upon this movement
with new leaders constantly being developed. Those involved in its
overall leadership are often not as well known as some individual
ministers within the movement. This speaks of a disinclination to
be pushing for senior posts and a putting back of priority into
the fruitful local church ministry.
3. Interdenominational Evangelism.
It is vital to be a part of a movement that both
acknowledges and promotes this. Foursquare encourages the local
church to be at the forefront of developing structures for unity
and closer working relationships within the wider body of Christ.
4. Maintaining Radical Middle Ground.
With all the excesses and extremes that are prevalent
in the charismatic movement today, it is vital to be a part of a
movement that values the middle ground. The heart of a movement
needs to be balanced and noted for its moderation whilst actively
seeking to be biblically based and open to all of the Holy Spirit’s
work.
5. Embracing Men & Women in Leadership &
Ministry.
Humanly speaking, the Foursquare movement was initiated
by a woman and there has always been an acceptance and encouragement
of woman in active leadership and ministry. Couples are encouraged
to work together and people are recognised for their gifting and
not prejudiced according to their gender.
6. Primary Focus On The Gospel.
The freshness in the Foursquare movement is maintained
by its passion for preaching of the gospel message. It has not become
side-tracked by other issues of church life, valid as they might
be, but has maintained its central stance on the work and person
of the Lord Jesus Christ. The emphasis is firmly upon Jesus as being,
The Saviour of the world, The Healer of our sicknesses, The Baptiser
with the Holy Spirit and The Soon Coming King. This emphasis is
a continual reminder of the need to be sharing the gospel news.
There is a primary concern for local church planting to be a fruit
of this.
7. Family.
The movement is not a hard-nosed authoritarian
system but a family of people who want to work together and are
committed to one another. There is freedom for each local church
to express its own identity whilst maintaining the family likeness
and the principals of life engendered within the Foursquare movement.
